Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (SSI) announces the release of the Cell Culture Media Analysis Platform, C2MAPTM-2000, a fully automated and integrated sample preparation workstation for the analysis of cell culture media. The C2MAP system measures changes of 95 components in a culture supernatant—including amino acids, sugars, vitamins and other critical components—as culturing progresses using LC-MS/MS to improve antibody production and accelerate process optimization.
The C2MAP-2000 module ensures consistency of the pretreatment of culture media samples, thus increasing reproducibility of the data. It automates internal standard addition, deproteinization, transport to the LC-MS, and sample dilution. The operation software provides a simple user interface to allow any level of user to operate C2MAP.
With an automated process from pretreatment to measurement, the system can improve laboratory efficiency by freeing up technicians during the day and enabling analysis during non-working hours. Users can select the measurement workflow to match their specific culture and can perform seamless analysis and management from pretreatment to LC/MS/MS measurement.
By simultaneously measuring 95 components, production quality can be monitored over time to make modifications and additions to the media as needed. In doing so, the production consistency improves along with the yield. The visualization software tool, C2MAP TRENDS, provides a simple way to track changes to the media over time during manufacturing or in comparison to other batches. With minimal effort, reports illustrating the trends for all 95 components can be generated.
This system can be used for a wide range of applications, from basic research of cell cultures including pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells and ES cells), mesenchymal stem cells, and antibody-producing cells (such as CHO cells), to optimizing the scale-up process of culture volumes and process development.
