Park Systems AFM Scholarship Awards – Nasim Bosh and Florina Serdean

Mannheim, 13 July, 2018

Park Systems, the world’s leading manufacturer of atomic force microscopes (AFM) is proud to award the Park Systems AFM Scholarships to two new young scientists from Europe:

1st Prize goes to Nasim Bosh from HFU Furtwangen, Campus Tuttlingen, Germany

2nd Prize goes to Florina Serdean from Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Park AFM Scholarship Awards are open to undergraduate or postdoctoral students. Through this program, Park Systems has offered assistance to many researchers who qualify as Park AFM Scholars by matching them with one of thousands of nanoscience shared user facilities to perform their research using Park AFMs.

“We apply the Atomic Force Microscopy technology to characterize the nano-mechanical properties of thin layers in micro and nano-scale and to determine ways to strengthen or combine materials to optimization the mechanical properties and fatigue strength of metallic components,”comments the 1st prize winner, Nasim Bosh. Nasim is a PhD student in Material Science at Hochschule Furtwangen (HFU). Her research project is a part of the cooperation program between University of Freiburg (IMTEK) and Hochschule Furtwangen (HFU) and focuses on developing new hybrid materials with specific properties as the surface coating on metals.
The second Park AFM Scholar, Florina Serdean, investigates the characterization of niobium nitride thin films using a XE-70 AFM from Park Systems. “The results of our studies conducted by using Atomic Force Microscope from Park Systems allow us to establish the niobium nitride thin films which have superior properties with respect to adhesion and tribology,” explains Florina.
